DILAN goes to the 48th AEDEAN conference in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) on 12-14 November 2025 with a presentation exploring the connection between scientists’ collaboration structures and the language used in their publications.
Our colleagues Gonzalo Ruiz, from Kampal Data Solutions, Jose Divasón from Universidad de la Rioja and Carmen Pérez-Llantada from University of Zaragoza presented DILAN-based interdisciplinary research at the 48th Spanish Association for Anglo-American Studies conference. Their presentation “Collaborative Networks and International Research Publication Practices” explored the connection between scientists’ collaboration structures and the language used in their publications.

Their interdisciplinary approach involved looking at the social dimension of publishing in high-stakes impact factor journals and the textual dimension:
- how scientists collaborate via co-authorship networks
- the linguistic features of article titles
They reported on a study of 11 EU STEM researchers that reveals that centrality and network position are more crucial for visibility than productivity alone. Bridges between communities are also key to impact. Importantly, they found that researchers occupying central network positions (those with significant influence) tend to use article titles with distinct linguistic features.

Findings underscore the need to train researchers in both effective collaboration and crafting impactful titles to increase visibility and impact. DILAN training takes on board this research to help EU researchers and researchers worldwide to communicate effectively in digital media to specialized and wider audiences
