Transnational mobility and conference in Bucharest, Romania

On June 13th and 14th, the DILAN partners participated in the transnational mobility and the Conference “Innovate and Engage: Bridging Research Communication and Society” in Bucharest, hosted by the Romanian partner ASE (Academia de Studii Economice din Bucuresti).

These were two packed but extremely fruitful days. On Friday 13th, the Consortium partners met in person to discuss DILAN’s progress and to refine plans for the final six project months. We have finished the piloting phase of the short course on “Online Science Communication”, so after putting together our experiences and suggestions, we are ready to improve the course and prepare the MOOC version for its launch in the 2nd half of the year. We will keep you posted with updates on both training courses, future dissemination events, and publications!!

On Friday afternoon, we participated in the Innovate and Engage: Bridging Research Communication and Society Conference, organised by the ASE team. DILAN was foregrounded in this international dessemination event through keynote plenaries, presentation sessions, roundtables, and posters.

Carmen Pérez-Llantada gave the opening plenary about the impact of digital transformation on science communication in the context of the Open Science movement. Her talk discussed emerging ways and mode of communication, how collaborative networking can support scientists, and how the DILAN Project contributes to communicate science digitally and effectively.

Dacia Dressen-Hammouda‘s plenary talk reflected on indexicality, iconicity, and how LSP teachers can design and develop a successful pedagogy combining research and practice in the scope of better science communication.

Kristin Solli, on behalf of the training course designers, gave an enlightening talk on the theoretical principles and methodological design of the four-week short course on “Online Science Dissemination”.

The plenaries were complemented by a roundtable with academics who participated as ‘students’ in the piloting phase and who shared their experiences and views on the course. All DILAN partners contributed with presentations and posters, featuring project outcomes.

In addition to the keynotes and presentations given by DILAN members, we were pleased to host an invited plenary, delivered by Roxana Patras, a Romanian researcher specialising in Digital Humanities, who shared insights into the process of turning unstructured data into structured data sets. It was also extremely rewarding to see how our international event provided an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas with researchers and practitioners who made presentations on relevant, related or complementary topics, reflecting their project experiences and outcomes, while, at the same time, being interested in finding out more about DILAN.
